Van Gogh or Not!

VAN GOGH OR NOT?
Galavanting in the Streets of Toronto, I came across a painting that reminded me of a Van Gogh piece. Modern art can dictate traditional pieces but can never replace the past. I admire the use of color corals and blues to showing the distress on his face.

All Aboard!

Klaxon’s Howl Fall’11 Collection offered viewers a rugged monochromatic military inspiration drawn from the sailors and marine merchants during WWII. Circa 1940s, I was in a period of tailored pieces, utility straps, dropped pockets, and epaulettes that made a simple yet subtle statement. How I love escapism!
Matt Robinson, Creative Director/Owner of Klaxon Howl fulltime and historian part-time, collaboration with the Bay has been a smart choice for his independent business on Queen St.
The Flagship store in Toronto, offers young Canadian designers a chance to showcase their collections in a department store scene. Why not? More volume and a broader target market exposes the customer a high- low price point spectrum with the support of Canadian creativity.

Both players take a chance.

Celebrity, Samuel L Jackson even whipped up one of the Utility Jackets for his personal collection after the show.

Recycled Lace.

How I love Vintage!

How I love Vintage!
Lace and sheer material is on trend this season. Going through my photo archives, I have put together a collage of my favourite cocktail dresses and everything is from the past- Circa 1920s. Vintage pieces provide a sense of individuality that can never be replaced by mass produce fast fashion. Lets save the planet one vintage garment at a time!

Inventory Magazine

Inventory Magazine

My neighbour( an independent Edwin denim sales rep) invited me for another week of  industry chat and on his 1950s green teak couch sat a recycled magazine...Inventory.
The Vancouver based magazine about has an intelligent twist about the independent menswear industry. Published bi-anually, the last issue's (F/W 2010) main theme displayed one piece of apparel that was born during the age of Mr.Strauss. Yes,denim.
Raw fabrics, selvedge showings-completely authentic non fabricated approach.

Check it out!

Canadian Made.

Yes, you read correctly. Amanda Lewkee is Canadian Made. A recent graduate from Ryerson U, Ms. Lewkee is one of the youngest Canadian designers who has veen exposed on Fashion Television. I believe her greatest inspiration are young streetwear designers...Alexander Wang/Helmut Lang. What do you think??

Adele- The Modern Cass Elliot??

Adele's voice is sultry and soulful just like Mama Cass Elliot. In fact, her sixties retro style reminds me of her.

Origamic Melting Pot

Thanks to Japanese for making the traditional form of art-Origamy.
The art of creating unconventional design with use of folds is sweeping design.
The contemporary womenswear brand,Ports 1961,and the Canadian born homeware company,Umbra, celebrates Origamy.
